Background
A thesaurus is an instrument used to organize terminology and to express relationships between concepts. For decades, information specialists have depended on thesaurus to standardize the terminology in retrieving data.
The importance of a joined effort to elaborate an English /Spanish thesaurus that reflects the variations in the local use of languages in the LAC countries in agriculture prompted IICA and USDA to carry out this workshop.
Objective
Experts in agricultural information from Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and Peru will acquire the competences necessary to keep and update the Agricultural Thesaurus in Spanish using collaborative technologies. Utilizing TIC, specialists from El Salvador and Bolivia will participate by videoconference.

The Mexican participants are members of the REMBA Network of the IICA-PROCINORTE Agricultural Library and Information Services Task Force. This activity is part of the annual plan in support and expansion of the development and maintenance of the Spanish language version of the NAL Thesaurus (NALT) through contributions by information professionals within REMBA.
