Dr. Dahiya graduated in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry from CCS Haryana Agricultural University, India. He holds master degree in molecular epidemiology of infectious bursal disease of poultry from Indian Veterinary Research Institute and PhD degree in molecular pathogenic mechanisms of a fish bacterial pathogen from the University of Guelph, Canada. During post-doctorate work with academia and private sector, he contributed to understanding and managing aquatic animal health issues.
He joined the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) in 2010 and since has been working as veterinarian in various roles. He was involved in delivery of Canadian meat inspection programs at slaughter plants and has participated in management of high consequence animal disease outbreaks in Canada. In his role as National Diseases Specialist, he developed policies and procedures for management of the federally controlled animal diseases in Canada. He participated as an expert in various Canadian COVID-19 One-Health Working Groups for managing pandemic at the human-animal-environmental interface by developing policy, biosecurity recommendations, risk assessments and risk communication products.
