Sérgio holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Wayne State University (Michigan, USA) and a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada).  Sérgio began his career as an engineer working in Research and Development with industry where he authored several patents over a period of 4 years and oversaw manufacturing projects in the USA, Mexico and Japan.  He then held various engineering leadership roles over a course of 6 years with the automotive industry overseeing and supporting several projects in Detroit, Michigan and surrounding areas.  Sérgio worked for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) for 7 years in Southwest Ontario before joining the Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).  For 5 years, Sérgio owned and operated a consulting Information Technology (IT) business where he virtually managed a team of technical specialists located in Australia.  His team handled daily critical production issues at manufacturing sites worldwide that involved immediate triage of complex software applications.  Since 2019, Sérgio has been an Associate Director with AAFC overseeing science and operations, first at the Research and Development Centre located in Harrow and then subsequently for both London & Vineland, all located in Ontario, Canada.   At the moment he is in a Director role managing Research, Development and Technology for AAFC research centres located in Southern Ontario and the Technology Transfer office in Guelph, Ontario.  Sérgio has many hobbies which include art, home renovation, music and languages.  Sérgio lives in London, Ontario, Canada with his spouse and their two children.
